Lakeshore Chamber Of Commerce To Host Identity Theft Luncheon

STEVENSVILLE, Michigan (April 7, 2008)- On Tuesday, April 22nd, the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce will host its Quarterly Meeting at the Park Inn Conference Center in Stevensville, Michigan. Officer Michael Clark from the Baroda-Lake Township Police Department will be the guest speaker for the luncheon. Officer Clark will be conducting a program on protecting you and your business from Identity Theft. The cost for the program is $10.00 and the price includes lunch. Everyone is invited to attend, even if not a Chamber member. Reservations may be made by calling the Chamber office at 429-1170.

According to a study conducted by the US Department of Justice, about 1.6 million households experienced theft of existing accounts other than a credit card (such as a banking account), and 1.1 million households discovered misuse of personal information (such as social security number).Ten percent of the households with incomes of $75,000 or higher experienced identity theft; that was about twice the percentage of households earning less than $50,000. Across all types of identity theft, the average amount lost per household was $1,620.

Identity theft is as prevalent in Southwest Michigan as anywhere else in the country. The Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce has identified this as an important issue to its members and community.  Not only does this issue affect one’s personal lives, but also the way that one does business. The Chamber hopes that this hour long seminar will be informative and will help increase awareness of the problem of identity theft and stop it before it happens.

The Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce exists to promote the interests of Stevensville, Baroda and its surrounding areas for the growth and advancement of businesses and communities. It is a member-driven organization, which seeks to be a valuable resource to the business community, a conduit for business attraction and retention, a highly effective asset for our communities, a leader in creating meaningful partnerships, and an advocate for business.
